The Missouri University of Science and Technology's Institute for Environmental Excellence will hold a post conference workshop titled, "Concepts for a Highly Effective Environmental Management System in Academia"This will be a hands-on interactive session.  Peer discussion and expert input of what does and does not work in academia will be included.Participants will gain experience in:

  • The basic requirements and terminology of an EMS Planning Defining aspects, impacts and significance Setting realistic and smart objectives integrating the requirements of an EMS into current practices Gaining Top Leadership commitment Securing "Champions" campus-wide Dealing with limited resources Addressing faculty attitudes Identifying the opportunities of continual improvement in academia Determining when,how and if to use consultants.
  • Overcoming participants specific largest obstacles.

Participants will hear and learn first hand from the experiences at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, an ISO 14001 registered organization.

Time and Place

The workshop will begin at 1:00PM August 16th, after the conclusion of the EPA Conference, and will conclude at noon on August 17th. It will be held at the Fairmont Hotel on the Country Club Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri. Cost and Payment
